The Kolam Project

Originally a project started as a letterform design series where Latin letterforms and numbers were derived from the Kolam motifs. Kolam is a form of floor art and is known by different names in different parts of India. Popularly known as Rangoli in north Inida, Pookalam in Kerala, Alpana in West Bengal, so on and so forth.

These Kolam designs are drafted and drawn on a grid of dots. I made use of these dotted grids as a structure to derive the letterforms and numbers.

Later, it developed as a range of merchandise products such as table coasters, notebooks, cards, stickers, bookmarks etc.
